From my point of view, that is, the point of view of the lawyer who deals with public law, especially police criminal procedure and criminal law, the most significant change and at the same time the hallmark of digitisation is the shift. In other words, the shifting of essential parts of the preparation, but also the perpetration of crimes into the digital world, or rather the digital space. As in other areas, communication and collaboration no longer take place offline, but online. Messenger services are used, communication takes place on platforms. Communication can take place internationally, there is no need to meet. This has of course been the case for some time now, but it is becoming more and more apparent that by removing obstacles such as space and distance, new networking possibilities are constantly emerging, and things are moving faster and faster. The demand for illegal services no longer has to be met at the dealer’s premises, but can be met online via platforms, and this is also very important, while maintaining anonymity and technically mediated confidentiality through the consistent use of encryption and anonymisation techniques. Of course I would like to express my opinion on the Internet. Perhaps I would not do that if I always had to give my name, and that is why I think it is very sensible that there has been a basic rule for years that it must be possible to use Internet services anonymously. On the other hand, of course, and this is where we have the conflict, the security authorities, who want to approach people in concrete terms, and also the law enforcement authorities, are faced with the problem that this anonymity can of course also be exploited to commit crimes from the shadows.
